The Lesson Of Faith Fig Tree

Faith Removes Obstacles

I try to always use my car as a “university.” I have to drive about 25 minutes to work each day so why not use the time to improve myself. I have a number of audio books that I enjoy. I’m not talking about Stephen King novels or anything like that. I’m talking about audio books that will improve me in some way.

As I listened to “Think and Grow Rich”, I heard the narrator say something that absolutely jolted me; Faith removes limitations. In Biblical terms…with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Or, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). And finally, the popular mantra, believe it and achieve it.

The statement “faith removes limitations” made so much sense to me.

Matthew 21:21-22 (New International Version)

21Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

Of course the fig tree and mountain are just metaphors of whatever is limiting you in your life. I think the mistake that most of us make in our lives is confusing faith with a wish.

I think that we sometimes look at our limitations and place them on God. We look up at our “mountains” and think it is impossible to achieve but nothing is too hard for God and that’s where we limit ourselves. You must have unshakeable faith when you pray.

Matthew 19:26 (New International Version)

26Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

You must absolutely believe in whatever it is that you pray for. You may say, “Why would God answer my prayer?” Why wouldn’t God answer your prayer?

You want to give gifts to your children, friends or loved ones right? God loves us more than we even have the ability to love ourselves or others so you know he wants to give gifts to you but, you must believe that.

Also, it’s okay to ask for something for you. I hear so many people pray and then add on, if it be God’s will. That’s an immediate waiver in your faith and then of course, limitation.

Let’s talk specific to fitness for the moment. If you are believing to lose 30 pounds, to eat healthier, or even for more energy and time so that you can get in your workouts, why wouldn’t God answer that prayer? Your body is God’s Temple. He dwells in you. Wouldn’t it make sense that His will would be that you have a healthy body? Or, do you think that helping you with self discipline is too tough for God? You may have limitations but God does not and….faith removes limitations.

The next time you sit down with a plan or goal, have faith. If you can’t believe in yourself, believe in God to help you to grow and make changes so that you can accomplish your goals. State your goals daily and say it in the present tense; as if it’s already done. Be persistent and never, ever give up because…..faith removes limitations….faith removes obstacles.
